Taiwan Sport - The Spirit of Taiwan: Table Tennis

his film provides an in-depth look at how our laboratory utilizes “sports biomechanics analysis” technology to analyze the ways Taiwan’s Olympic table tennis players shine on the international stage. Through sports science, these outstanding Taiwanese table tennis athletes constantly push their limits and bring honor to the nation. (The video begins at the 10-minute mark.)

Inside Look: Sports Science

National Geographic Channel documented how sports science supports these elite competitors, serving as their strongest backing in the pursuit of competitive sports. Not only does it help prevent injuries and foster self-awareness, but it also enables them to push beyond their limits. (Begins at 19:00)

Sports Science Film Series - Breakdancing

This film, produced in collaboration with Public Television Service (PTS), introduces breaking—a sport making its debut at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Through the “Motion” motion capture analysis system, viewers gain a glimpse into the secrets behind executing high-difficulty floor moves.

During the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the Chinese Taipei team stood out with an impressive performance in archery. But did you know just how difficult it is to excel in an archery competition? In addition to factoring in mechanical principles and release angles, wind conditions also play a critical role. Let’s take a closer look at how these athletes employ a scientific training system to maximize the effectiveness of their daily practice.

The Science of Martial Arts and Dance

Martial arts and dance, both forms of physical movement, encompass a great deal of scientific knowledge. The gestures—even the slightest ones—or the way one breathes and jumps embody and demand scientific principles, involving areas such as kinematics, statics, and fluid mechanics. These scientific fundamentals can enhance or limit overall performance in both martial arts and dance. Even a minor misstep could cause a seasoned Olympic athlete to lose out on a gold medal. Which movements boost power? How can the body’s limits be utilized most effectively?

Through this program, we gain insight into how these scientific principles are applied and how scientific monitoring uncovers details invisible to the naked eye. By merging martial arts and street dance, the audience also discovers the underlying concepts and sees how these two art forms can ignite a whole new spark when brought together.

TITV-Science Little Atom - Baseball

The angle and placement of the shot are crucial to whether a player scores. What appears to be a simple stroke actually involves numerous scientific principles and techniques!

Sports Science Investigation

National Taiwan University of Sport and the Chinese Television System (CTS) have collaborated to produce the program Sports Science Investigation. In this series, experts from various sports science fields and specialized coaches explain the diagnostic techniques and scientific principles behind the performances of international-level athletes. The crew also traveled overseas to film the manufacturing processes of sports equipment, providing valuable information for school sports teams, PE-class coaches, and students. The program is divided into eight episodes covering archery, billiards, golf, baseball, and taekwondo:

1. The Secret to Hitting the Bullseye (Archery)
2. Becoming a Super Sharpshooter (Archery)
3. Fast-Gun Magic on the Table (Billiards)
4. The Critical Shot: Decoding Golf Equipment Secrets (Golf)
5. The Critical Shot: The Ultimate Guide to Upgrading Your Skills (Golf)
6. Blazing Baseball: Mysterious Weapons Behind Powerful Pitching and Hitting
7. Blazing Baseball: One Pitch, One Spirit
8. The Aerial Spinning Kicks of Taekwondo
